A lathe-cut vinyl record is cut in real time: a cutting lathe carves the grooves of your audio directly into a blank disc, one record at a time. How much music fits on a lathe-cut vinyl record?
A 12-inch lathe-cut record holds up to 20 minutes of music per side, 40 minutes in total. That is usually 8 to 12 songs depending on their length. The editor shows the time remaining on each side while you build the tracklist, so you always know what fits.
Can a lathe-cut record be colored, or have photos on it?
Yes. Every record we make is lathe-cut, and you can pick the finish: classic black, one of eight colors or any custom shade, or a picture disc with your photos sealed inside the vinyl. The cutting process is identical for all of them, so the sound is the same whichever finish you choose.
Where do the songs come from?
Two ways. Search the music catalog inside the editor and add songs by any artist, or upload your own audio files (MP3, WAV, M4A, and more) for recordings that are not on streaming services, like a voice memo, a demo, or a wedding speech. You can mix both on one record.

How long does it take to make a lathe-cut vinyl record?
Each record is cut to order and ships in 10-12 business days most of the year. From November through February the queue is longer, usually 15 to 20 business days, so order early for the holidays. Expedited shipping at checkout speeds up transit after the record ships; it does not shorten production time.
Is lathe-cut vinyl a good option for bands and small runs?
It is the only practical option under about a hundred copies. Pressing plants need a metal stamper and a minimum run to justify it, usually 100 to 300 records. Lathe-cutting has no setup and no minimum, so a band can order five records for the merch table, or one test copy, at the same per-record price.
